I decided on wood turning to replace the item on the list ‘Donate Blood’ because of some issues I’d come up against earlier on in the year. I made some enquiries and was pleasantly surprised when I received an email from Mike Donavan, the Vice Chairman of the Association of Wood Turners of Great Britain. He contacted me and invited me to his house to let me have a go at creating a few pieces of beauty from a number of different woods.
It was a great experience and although all I’d done it the past, at school, was make a lamp stand, which resembled nothing like a lamp stand,I don’t think I did too badly this time, with Mike’s help of course.
Ian Blackett very kindly took the photos and on one of them said I looked like Hannibal Lecter. The impertinence!
